DocZoid vs IcePanel
IcePanel is a serious architecture modelling tool built around C4. It is the right answer for organisations that want a governed model with real rigour, and the wrong answer for a team that just needs the diagram to be true on Friday.
| Price | Diagrams from repo | Kept updated | Into docs & decks | MCP | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DocZoid | $12 to $18 / editor | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| IcePanel | $40 to $80 per editor / month | No | No | No | No |
Where IcePanel wins
The most rigorous C4 modelling tool available.
IcePanel models rather than draws. Objects exist once and appear at several levels of zoom, so a rename propagates the way it should. If you have an architecture practice with standards, review, and someone whose job title contains the word architect, that model is worth having. Their diagram-to-stakeholder storytelling is better than ours.
Where DocZoid wins
The diagram does not stop at the diagram.
The IcePanel model is built and maintained by hand. It is accurate on the day it is drawn, and its accuracy after that is a function of how much discipline the team has. DocZoid generates the model from the code and regenerates it on every push, which needs no discipline at all. IcePanel also starts at $40 per editor per month, more than twice DocZoid's Team plan, and has no documents and no presentations.
Which to pick
Pick IcePanel if a governed C4 model is the deliverable and you have the people to maintain it. Pick DocZoid if you want the current state to be correct without anyone maintaining anything.
The difference, drawn
A diagram somebody maintains, and a diagram nobody maintains.
